Composting activities, Snibston Discovery Park

Get into the mood for Compost Week with the Master Composters at Snibston Discovery Park.

  • Painted Compost Bin Competition. From 2pm. Bins limited so schools/individuals will need to register.
  • Draw a composting poster to enter for the national composting poster competition event for children. You can also enter online.
  • Make a Rotbot - 2pm, 3pm. Children‘s activity. Make a mini-compost bin in a bottle, take it home and grow a seed bean or a marigold. Participants should bring two 2 litre plastic “pop” bottles.

Please note: there is no charge to attend these specific events but Snibston Discovery Park‘s normal admission charges still apply.

Get involved and learn all about composting with Master Composter Rod Weston at Snibston Discovery Park.

  • Compost advice. Master Composters will be on hand at Compost Corner demonstration site provide guided tours and advice on composting, wormeries and home made liquid feed. There will be a stand promoting County Council offers on compost bins so come along and find out more.
  • Compost bug hunt at Sibston Gazebo. A chance to look for the creatures that help make and live in compost. All day from 11am.
  • Draw a composting poster to enter for the national composting poster competition event for children (see above). All day from 11am
  • Composting posters on display in the cafe upstairs area. Come and view the designs produced by visitors to the Park on Saturday.

If you‘ve not had a chance to drop in to Compost Week at Snibston Discovery Park, don‘t miss out today!

Get your entry in quick! Today is the last day of a National Poster Competition, which is being run as part of International Compost Awareness Week 6 – 12 May 2013. Master Composters from across the UK are organising this free UK wide poster competition to promote composting. The concept and images of the poster may be based on any aspect of home, allotment, school or community composting covering the composting process or the use of compost.

Join in the family fun and help celebrate the official launch of the new Coalville Cycle Network at Stephenson College from 11am-3pm. This is a wonderful chance to see an Olympic Gold cycling medallist in action and to get out on your bike too. Dani King, Gold medallist on Super Saturday in the Women‘s Cycling Team Pursuit, will be Leicestershire County Council‘s guest of honour on the day and will officially open Coalville‘s new cycle network.

It will be a case of bikes everywhere! Cycle rides led by Dani King, stunt bikes to wow you, cycling to power a scalextric track, cycle powered smoothies, free Dr Bike maintenance checks, win a bike, you name it. Just don‘t forget to bring your bike!
