Radisson Blu East Midlands Airport Hotel

The Radisson Blu East Midlands Airport Hotel is being dubbed the greenest hotel in the United Kingdom, if not Europe.

The five-storey, 216-bed hotel incorporates high-quality elements that reflect both the locality and significance as a gateway to the region, including a courtyard that induces references to the nearby National Forest with its timber features, and an aviation-inspired canopy. The northern elevation of the building is clad in curved aluminium panels with feature flush windows and seamless joints similar to modern airliner construction.

The hotel uses a range of low energy technologies to reduce the energy demand of the building; it is supplemented by an on-site Combined Heat and Power (CHP) engine with a Pure Plant Oil (PPO) Tri-Generation Energy Centre that will export electricity to the national grid outside of normal occupancy hours. This innovative system also collects and stores any waste heat generated in a thermal store; this is used to heat and cool the whole hotel, delivering an 87% reduction in CO2 emissions.

The build also incorporates a number of Sustainable Construction Techniques to deliver a BREEAM Excellent facility: A sustainable Surface Water Drainage system that utilises techniques such as porous paving in the car park; attenuation tanks and a rainwater harvesting system is also integrated into the design of the hotel to serve the WCs in the building and the external landscaped areas. There is also interior and exterior motion sensitive lighting to further reduce electricity consumption.

The Radisson Blu offers premium facilities including;

  • eight executive suites
  • a full service restaurant and bar
  • extensive events and conferencing facilities
  • high-speed internet access for all guests and meeting delegates
  • full health and leisure facilities including a swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms.
