What are we doing to celebrate the Green Agenda over the next 12 months?

Promotion of sustainable programmes:

  • Solar Domestic Hot water
  • Rainwater Harvesting
  • Ground source Heat Pump
  • Air Source Heat Pump
  • Underfloor Heating
  • Staff and learner awareness, through offering through enrichment programmes.
  • Staff awareness through hosting train the trainer programmes here which give 2 free staff places on each.
  • Higher profile on Open Days.
  • Having stands at conferences and exhibitions e.g. EMDA EXPO and Lincoln University.

What is the FE Sector doing?

  • Conferences and seminars.
  • Response to EMDA's priorities with grants.
  • Development of programmes through BPEC or Logic e.g. Combined Heat and Power, Biomass, Solar design
  • Incorporating renewables as an optional unit in Plumbing level III.

What plans have we got to educate people about the Green Agenda?

  • Possibly through using external national bodies like the Carbon Trust.
  • Promotion via courses already running.
  • Attending and contributing in conferences - e.g. Loughborough University / BT sustainability agreement for the East Midlands.

Working with partners:

  • Nottingham Trent University - Development of material, and potential research for renewable energy.
  • Sector Skills Council - working closely with them on Foundation degree development in sustainability, their sector skills agreement, and the National Occupational Standards.
  • BPEC (British Plumbing Employers Council) - working closely with them on development of new courses in sustainability.
  • Local Authorities, and Public Service events - Hosting environmental committee for Leicestershire District Councils, NWLDC Green Footprint event, Building control visits, planning dept visits.
  • Manufacturers:
    Worcester Bosch (boiler manufacturer) Ferroli (boiler manufacturer) Uponor (underfloor heating manufacturer) Polypipe civils (Rainwater Harvesting manufacturer)

How are we measuring our increasing sustainability actions and their effects?

  • We have an officer who monitors energy consumption through cost. He does this through measuring the consumption of the plant operations as well as the on / off times.
  • We have photo cells on the lighting and presence detectors to achieve low energy use in unused areas.
